As the creator of what I think is the best time tracker out there, you’ll be surprised to hear why this journey started. It began because time tracking scared me. I hate it. It’s like a bad scary movie that you get stuck in day after day. You want to hide behind the sofa when you see all the time wasted, or look closely at reports on where and how you spent your time, but you know what? Something that scary means it’s got to be important. In fact, it’s probably the most important thing we’ve got.
The thing is, unlike everything else we can save (like money), we simply can’t save time. All we can do is budget it and spend it more effectively. Make every single second matter. So I wrote my answer to making that puzzle work: OfficeTime. And I made it to successfully answer all of the arguments I had and reasons I hated time tracking.
These are the hurdles that OfficeTime had to accomplish just to get past me:
– I just want it to work. I don’t want to think about it.
– I want to concentrate on work, not time tracking.
– I’ve used so many time trackers, this one had to be different.
– I hate it when my brain has to function. Just let me hit buttons and have it go.
– It needs to have huge flexibility and reporting, so I can do almost anything with it after the fact.
When I could blow past those benchmarks, and honestly know that I’d come up with an answer to time management that made time tracking a tool, instead of a hindrance, it was time for the last piece of the puzzle: It needs to be a fast start, easy to use, and not take weeks of training and learning. Voila! We did it. One of my favorite aspects of OfficeTime is the “Tip of the Day,” to allow our users to use OfficeTime effectively, while they learn at their pace.
And after a ton of effort around hitting the targets that OfficeTime had to hit, it was time to put it out there and watch people use it. To embrace the community of users and the feedback they offered.… NOW it’s time for OfficeTime to hit the next space, to bring you all the absolute best mobile app in the world.
With that app, we will literally have the opportunity to change how companies and individuals do business and make a difference in the world. Why? Two reasons: One is you’ll have more billable hours simply because you will easily and effectively track your time, per project, per client, without going bonkers. And two, because once that is true, you will also have more command over your FREE time – your DOWN time – the real you behind the curtain.
The truth is that everything you work for is better when your work life is more effective and more productive. No more scary movie – now you get to write the script and decide the ending.
Time. The real commodity.
