While a carefully-crafted schedule is necessary for maintaining smooth operations at the office, how much of it are you routinely putting to good use?  In his article, There Is No Such Thing As Time Management Michael Erwin provides a thoughtful approach designed to make the most of the moment.  If you’re ready to delve into productivity optimization, the succeeding insight should help hone your efficiency.

Following his outright statement that There Is No Such Thing as Time Management, Michael claims that people frequently mistake the implementation of TM as a means to an end in itself. Instead, shift your focus from Time Management to Self-Management.  By minding the tasks as opposed to the time, you will be more engaged in the work to be completed.

#209 STEPHEN - June Blogs - 1 of 4One of Michael’s steps that resonates well with me is his order of ‘Ready, FIRE, aim. Once you’re ready to go, don’t wait—jump on the task without missing a beat.  This ideology stresses the benefit of getting a headlong start on any given assignment, while shaping the product every step of the way.

How often do you start a particular task, only to discover an hour has gone by, with the task, remaining unfinished at large?  There is no greater detriment to managing your time than mistaking activity for achievement.  Get into the habit of regular self-checkups, such as reflecting upon what you have accomplished every fifteen minutes.

Regardless of the methodology you implement, you can always sharpen your skills to get the most out of your focus.  Through means of Self-Management, instilling a sense of urgency, and monitoring your progress every step of the way, the minutes will add up until that extra hour has become a reality.  And with that extra hour, is one to relax, or get back to work?
