WHAT and WHY
This Matrix is a simple way of helping yourself to choose which activities, tasks or projects to prioritize if you wish to make the most of your time and opportunities. You can also “see’ clearly which ones you will need to drop. After all, you are the “manager of your time” and you can incorporate the tool to choose activities intelligently. The alternative is involving you in activities that could be low-yield and very time consuming.
HOW:
a) List all you tasks need to do (advice: use a printable list that can be updated).
b) Using the chart provided, score each particular task or activity in one of the quadrants according to your evaluation on “Impact” (first) and then “Effort-Time Consumption.”
c) Score carefully and objectively (recommended a scale from 1-5).
d) This way you can separate and work on tasks that give the greatest returns on effort.
CATEGORIES:
ü HImpact-LEffort: Focus for optimum return on your low effort. It is a Quick Win.
ü HImpact-HEffort: These are your Major projects. Although they will yield great results, you should treat these items with urgency or divide them in smaller tasks that could possibly move to the above category as Quick wins.
ü LImpact-LEffort: Can you move them to your spare time?
ü LImpact-HEffort: Avoid them!
GENERAL THOUGHTS: Practice will enable you to become less stressed, improve your decision making and definitely maximize your personal effectiveness. Your time is a gift, organize each day according to the chart when it comes to the activities on your To-Do list.
