I will like to discuss the importance of time management to keep work-life balance in line; allowing us to enjoy both life and work. Work-life balance is the coveted grand prize of setting the priorities of your work and your life in such a way that you (and your family) end up being happy. In life you will make decisions and definitely live with the consequences.
Pick a ratio between work and life. The ration must be balanced and followed because deviations will create small to large amounts of stress to you and to people around you. Quick calculations: Consider that you are a small business owner. You have about 12 hours per day (sleep 8 hours-non work/non life activities 5 hours) and you work 6 days of 10 hours per day; it will give you a work-life ratio of about 75%/25%. If that is your decision, stick with it. It would be easier and less stressful from deviating for that ratio. You can revise the ratio, if you need to. Enlist an accountability partner!
It is the Time Management that will keep the flow. It is important to manage work and life priorities. In a previous article, I explain why scheduling the top 3 items that will move you forward first thing in your work day. I will now expand to schedule the top Life-Activity, for that day. Discipline is the key to success; “excuse” is the enemy. Do you want to always live under pressure and jeopardize your success, happiness and most importantly your health? Record the activities (beginners do this daily-if seasoned, you can plan weekly or even monthly) in writing and let your accountability partner know. If you fail, do not dwell; review-decide how to correct (the officeTime App can provide valuable clues) the failure and move on.
Now it’s your turn, how do you manage your time to achieve the best Work-Life balance? Please share your thoughts in the “Comments” section below.
Until next time,
