image001Gratitude is defined as an attitude in acknowledgement of a benefit that one has received or will receive. Bringing these feelings into the workplace can increase productivity, engagement, moral, and make employees feel a closer connection to those they work with, which increases ability to work collaboratively.

Do you express gratitude in your workplace? If you are someone who struggles with showing your gratitude, try to apply these simple tips in the office.

  1. • Say thank you. This tip might seem like a no-brainer. Be sure to respect the people around you and show them how grateful you are for the effort they put in by saying a simple thank you. A thank you coupled with a smile can go a long way when someone is feeling under appreciated.

  1. • Respectful behavior will be repeated.  If you’re a leader in your company, express gratitude for those around you and you will see others treat each other in the same respect. Acknowledge your employees’ efforts and you will likely see that their productivity and willingness to collaborate with colleagues will increase.

  1. • Accept gratitude graciously. When you’re on the receiving end of a compliment it is easy to bat it away with a self-deprecating comment. The person giving you the compliment obviously thought enough about your work to notice it, so keep the same moral by accepting the comment graciously by saying thank you.

  1. • Thank your customers-clients. Extend the gratitude from your office to your customers. Simply say thank you to them for putting their trust in you and allowing you to do a service for them. This will not only make your customers feel more appreciated, but will likely be repeated by your employees.

Will you use these tips to help change your office environment and help your employees and customers feel the appreciation they deserve? Do you have other strategies to add? With the New Year quickly approaching, take this time to revamp your office environment into a more positive workplace.

Until next time,

Yours truly,
