Creativity in the workplace is needed now more than ever. As the dynamic changes, and consumers want increasingly more funny and creative ads and marketing, workplaces need to keep up with the demand. Sometimes a workplace environment can stifle creativity. Here are 4 tips to unleash the creativity in your employees.
- 1. Positive reinforcement: Reward your employees for their creative ideas. Make incentives for people to really harness their creativity to churn out good ideas, and when they succeed, be sure to verbally address their efforts. If suggestions aren’t taken seriously or aren’t rewarded, employees will fee; as though their efforts aren’t worth the time or energy to come up with good ideas.
- 2. Brainstorm: Encourage employees to have brainstorming sessions, either alone or in a group. Creativity can be promoted by simply taking time to get ideas down on paper and explore those ideas more thoroughly. Give employees weekly time to do this.
- 3. Support taking risks: Show your employees that creativity is highly valued by supporting them when they take risks. If employees don’t feel like the company supports creativity, they are less likely to think outside the box. Let it be known that your organization appreciates creative thinking.
- 4. Limit stress: Stressful work environments can hinder creativity. When a workplace is too serious, creativity goes out the window. Encourage positive attitudes and collaboration.
Now it’s your turn, how does your organization work to increase creative thinking? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.
