It’s super easy to find yourself, day after day, with the same to do list you started with. We all think we’re doing our best to be productive, but unfortunately, when you’re working at a computer, you’re only as productive as the distractions you’re able to recognize and get away from. Much of the time, it’s the ability to say NO that truly equals effective time management in our lives (both professionally and personally). Of course, we believe that time tracking is the #1 time management tip – but just in case you need a few more, here are this week’s Time Management Tips from our team here at OfficeTime:
#1. Designate a time (or times) to check your eMail each day. (eMail can be a massive time suck and brutal distraction.)
#2. Hang a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door (of your office AND your house).
#3. Don’t answer the phone unless you’re expecting a call (this includes Skype). Instead, return calls later, when you have time. Also, let the person know that you just have a few seconds to return their call in order to subtly encourage them to be focused.
Remember, time tracking means owning your time. It means knowing what you spend your time on (and what you don’t).
