Wifi sync troubleshooting

Check iPhone/iPad Permissions

OfficeTime for iPhone/iPad might be denied permission to access files on the local network. Go to the settings app on your iPhone/iPad (not the OfficeTime settings). Scroll down to OfficeTime. Tap it. Is there a setting shown to allow to OfficeTime access to the Local Network? If so, change that to on and try again.

Windows

On the mobile version, tap the gear on the main screen, then Desktop Sync, then Sync with. Does it show your computer’s name?

NO?

OfficeTime relies on Apple’s Bonjour to find your devices.

You may not have Bonjour installed. You can install it from https://support.apple.com/kb/DL999

After installing, restart OfficeTime and try again.

YES?

If it does and nothing happens whne you tap on it, it means the signal coming out of your PC is OK but something is blocking the incoming signal from the iPhone to the PC.

Let’s check the firewall in case it suddenly got restricted. Here’s a guide on how to allow an app through the firewall. I recommend allowing both OfficeTime and Bonjour.

If that doesn’t work, here’s a guide on how to allow the UDP ports that Bonjour needs

https://www.tomshardware.com/uk/news/how-to-open-firewall-ports-in-windows-10,36451.html

These are the ports that need to be allowed

UDP 5350
UDP 5351
UDP 5353
UDP 1900

Failing that, take a look at your antivirus software to see if you can whitelist OfficeTime and Bonjour.

Mac

Go to System Preferences on your Mac, Security & Privacy, Firewall, Firewall Options, click + and add OfficeTime and restart OfficeTime. You may need to click the lock at the bottom left of the preferences to continue.

More tips

  • Ensure both devices are connected to the same wireless network. (It’s OK to have your Mac/PC connected to the same network via ethernet cable.)
  • Restart OfficeTime on both devices
  • Turn the wifi off and on on your Mac/PC
  • Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad
  • OfficeTime can’t sync when connected to a “guest” network that some wifi routers or corporate setups offer. Guest networks restrict you to internet access only for safety. This can be the case in some coffee shops as well.
  • Your Mac/PC OfficeTime broadcasts out a signal and waits for the iPhone/iOS to respond. If you want to see if this signal is showing up on your local wifi network, try downloading this free app. You’ll see ‘officetime-sync’ listed if everything is OK on the Mac/PC and wifi side.
